HISTORY

UKinbound was founded in 1977 as the British Incoming Tour Operators Association (BITOA) and was renamed UKinbound in November 2004. Our role is to represent the interests of companies deriving a substantial part of their income from the provision of tours and tourism services for overseas visitors within Britain.

Originally set up to represent the interests of inbound tour operators, UKinbound grew and in 1983 the membership expanded to include suppliers to the inbound industry. The suppliers were included as Associate Members.

In 2007 the membership voted unanimously for a change to the membership and corporate structure of the association. The changes allowed for the merger of the Full and Associate Members categories in a new single membership classification with immediate effect and, from 1 January 2008 the association converted from a 'mutual not for profit body' to a 'mutual company limited by guarantee'.

UKINBOUND CONVENTIONS 1983 - 2008

1983 saw the first UKinbound convention for all members, bringing together full and associate members for the first time. Since then the annual convention and workshop has become firmly established in the UKinbound calendar of events providing many networking opportunities and encouraging sharing of best practice.

Held in a different location each year cities bid to host the event, which offers the opportunity to promote their local industry to an influential group of visitors.
