Cawdor Castle acquires Cawdor Tavern

Cawdor Castle has purchased the popular food and drink hub Cawdor Tavern, a traditional country pub with a public bar, comfortable lounge restaurant and small function space. The acquisition of Cawdor Tavern provides an opportunity for growth in the current food and beverage offering of Cawdor Castle.

Having been owned by Orkney Brewery for the past 30 years, the Tavern has built up a fantastic reputation amongst locals and visitors for hearty, homemade meals served with a friendly Highland welcome and a relaxed, cosy ambience. Cawdor Tavern is set to undergo some modernisation and renovation, but The Cawdor Castle team will work hard to continue the ethos established by the previous owners.

The Tavern has some close links to the Castle and the Cawdor family. The fine, oak panelling in the lounge restaurant was once in the Castle drawing room, and was gifted by the Late Lord Cawdor.

Cawdor Castle is open from April – October each year, welcoming thousands of guests from around the globe to tour the living home and gardens of the Dowager Countess of Cawdor. Visitors can explore a unique combination of historical artefacts and collections, alongside the modern touches, contemporary artworks and sculptures which are the personal taste of the Dowager Countess.
