Whipsnade Zoo Celebrates 200th Anniversary with Birthday Bash

Whipsnade Zoo will host a birthday bash on the May bank holiday, as ZSL marks its 200th anniversary with a wild street party.

Between Saturday 2 and Monday 4 May, the weekend after ZSL’s official birthday on Wednesday 29 April, the UK’s largest zoo will host a full weekend of anniversary festivities, including hands-on activities, special talks, games, and party treats to celebrate 200 years of connecting people with wildlife, as part of the global conservation charity. There will be classic party foods including cake, jelly and ice cream, popcorn, candyfloss, and quintessential party games.

Visitors can also try their hand at nostalgic fairground games with a special zoo twist, including hook a flamingo or penguin shuffle, and a zoo-robics session, where kids can run like a cheetah, leap like a frog, and have a jungle boogie. There will also be a teddy bear’s picnic, arts and crafts, live music, and special performances from the Rock Choir.

Learn more about the animals at the conservation zoo and ZSL’s history of protecting them with special birthday-themed animal talks, and pay a visit to the 11,000 animals that call Whipsnade home, including new arrivals Sophia the camel, Mick the rhino, and two reticulated giraffe calves.

For two centuries, ZSL has been at the forefront of wildlife conservation, working around the world to restore habitats, protect species, and inspire the next generation of animal advocates. Every visit to Whipsnade Zoo helps to support the vital conservation work of ZSL, meaning families can enjoy a half-term day out while contributing to the conservation of wildlife worldwide.

Running across the early May bank holiday, all the activities are included with Zoo entry. Guests can book tickets here.
