Visitors arriving in Worcestershire by rail this summer can enjoy a smoother onward journey thanks to an expansion of the county’s Worcestershire on Demand service.
Partners including Great Western Railway, Visit Worcestershire, Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Community Rail Partnership have come together to highlight how simple it is for visitors to book onward transport. A series of videos will showcase the full journey, from prebooking and rail travel through to onward connections, making it easier to explore the county’s towns, countryside and attractions.
The on-demand service helps bridge the “final mile” between train stations and key visitor destinations, which can often make rural trips harder for tourists. By improving those connections, more of the county becomes easier to reach by train. Whether exploring the National Trust’s Croome Court from Worcestershire Parkway or browsing Broadway’s picturesque Cotswolds high street from Honeybourne Station, Worcestershire on Demand makes onward travel simple and convenient.
Councillor Adam Kent, Worcestershire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Corporate Services and Business, said, “Worcestershire has so much to offer, from our outstanding heritage and beautiful countryside to thriving market towns and world-class visitor attractions. We want travelling here to be as easy as possible, and Worcestershire on Demand is helping remove one of the biggest barriers for people arriving by train – that final part of the journey. By making it simpler to connect from our railway stations to destinations across the county, we’re encouraging more visitors to discover everything Worcestershire has to offer. That means more people supporting our local businesses, hospitality sector and visitor economy, while giving residents and tourists alike a more convenient and sustainable way to travel.”
Helen Scholes, Senior Partnerships Marketing Manager at Great Western Railway, said, “Working together with local councils, tourism partners and community rail partnerships is at the heart of what we do to keep our communities thriving. We’re proud to work alongside our Worcestershire partners to support making onward rural travel and exploration as accessible as possible. Journeys don’t just end at the station. That’s why making the final mile a seamless part of the journey is so important, particularly in more rural areas. Worcestershire’s On Demand bus service supports this need perfectly, helping everyone to enjoy a day out to amazing destinations that are now easier to visit by rail and bus.”
The initiative supports efforts to improve connectivity and make it easier for visitors to explore Worcestershire, helping more people access the county’s tourism offer while supporting local businesses and communities.
