Alnwick Castle 70th anniversary

Alnwick Castle is celebrating 70 years since its doors first opened to the public. On 3 May 1950, the Castle welcomed nearly 100 visitors within the first hour, with over 1,500 bookings taken for later in the year. At that time the Castle was only open from Wednesday to Saturday afternoons, with a staff of 14 men working under a police Sergeant; the visitor experience has developed and grown vastly since then.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Alnwick Castle is putting together an exhibition detailing the memory and experiences of visitors, employees and those who have resided within the castle walls over the years. Once complete, the exhibition will go on display in the Admission Hall at the Castle to welcome visitors as they arrive.

Alnwick Castle is calling on all those who have visited, worked or lived there to submit their stories, memories and photographs to [email protected] by 1 September 2020.
