Bodmin Jail has launched multilingual heritage audio tours in English, French, German, and Mandarin, allowing international visitors to explore the Jail’s compelling story in their own language.
Designed to complement Bodmin Jail’s self-guided visitor experience, the immersive audio tours bring the people, events, and social conditions of the Jail to life, from its opening in 1779 through its pivotal role in Cornwall’s justice system.
The multilingual audio tours guide visitors through key areas of the site, offering engaging stories of prisoners, warders, and daily life behind bars; an insight into Victorian justice, crime and punishment; and historical interpretation carefully tailored for international audiences.
“Our new multilingual audio tours are one of the first of their kind in Cornwall,” says Jess Marlton, General Manager.
“By offering tours in English, French, German, and Mandarin, we’re ensuring that every visitor can fully connect with Bodmin Jail’s history – no matter where they come from.”
With Cornwall welcoming visitors from across Europe and beyond, Bodmin Jail’s multilingual tours reflect the attraction’s commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and international tourism.
Built in 1779, Bodmin Jail is one of Cornwall’s most significant historical landmarks. Today, it operates as a world-class heritage attraction and immersive museum, combining cutting-edge interpretation with powerful storytelling to bring the past vividly to life.
The Multilingual Heritage Audio Tours are available daily and included free with standard admission. For more information or to book tickets, visit www.bodminjail.org or call +44(0) 1208 76292.
