Light Dancer, the latest creation from the team at Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, reimagines the vintage zoetrope for a new generation.
Guests are invited to twist the handle, which brings a circle of dancers to life, their silhouettes shimmering and dancing in time to Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The faster visitors spin the handle, the faster the tempo and the dancing. Light Dancer connects the old with the new, inspired by the early animation devices of the 19th century and the elegance of Art Nouveau design.
To launch the exhibit, 11-year-old East Lothian ballet dancer Emily Nicoll gave it a whirl during a visit to the attraction. A student at Morag Alexander School of Dancing and Rosehill High School, Emily brought the Light Dancer’s magical motion to life in perfect form.
Andrew Johnson, General Manager said, “We love creating unique exhibits that surprise and delight. Light Dancer is immersive, imaginative, and utterly joyful, a beautiful blend of nostalgia and innovation.”
Light Dancer is now open to the public and included with general admission.
