The National Gallery launches Children and Family tours

The National Gallery has announced the launch of its Gallery Explorer: A Children’s Art Tour at the National Gallery, available from 18 October 2025. Designed to engage and inspire young minds, these curated tours offer families a unique opportunity to explore the Gallery’s world-renowned collection together.

From magical myths to faraway lands, gallery-approved guides will take visitors through over 700 years of amazing art. They will hear the incredible stories behind some of the world’s greatest paintings and get up close to see every detail, discovering the tiny brushstrokes and splashes of colour that make a work of art. Children will be inspired to unleash their inner artist with hands-on sketching and activities amongst the masterpieces. Whatever the age, this tour is sure to spark their curiosity and wonder.

The tours will be available in two formats to suit a variety of visitors:

  • Private tours: Available daily between 10:00am and 4:00pm, lasting 1.5 hours, with the opportunity to explore the collection before or after the tour. Tours are in English, and other languages available on request for an additional fee.
  • Public tours: Available on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00am. Each tour lasts approximately one hour and is ideal for families joining a mixed group. Maximum group size: 20 participants.

The tours are ideal for 5-12-year-old children; however, children of a younger or older age are welcome. All children under the age of 17 need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
