Dundee Heritage Trust celebrates whales with weekend festival

From 27 – 29 June, Dundee’s waterfront will come alive with A Whale of a Weekend, a family-friendly festival celebrating the wonder of whales through the lens of art, science, polar exploration, and Scottish cultural heritage. Centred around Scotland’s historic ties to the sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia, the festival promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.

Taking place across Dundee Heritage Trust sites including Discovery Point, RRS Discovery, and V&A Dundee, the three-day celebration will feature hands-on activities, creative workshops, and engaging talks from explorers, artists, and scientists from around the globe. Families can look forward to exploring the fascinating world of whales and learning more about Scotland’s legacy in Antarctic exploration.

In a special gesture to mark the occasion, entry to Discovery Point and RRS Discovery will be free throughout the festival weekend.

Festival highlights include:

  • Immersive storytelling sessions and whale-themed activities
  • Talks and presentations from polar experts and marine scientists
  • Creative workshops inspired by ocean life and South Georgia’s rich ecosystem
  • Fish and chips served on the quayside
