English Heritage sites set to reopen in July

Stonehenge reopens

A number of English Heritage sites is set to reopen to all visitors including travel trade from 4 July as part of a phased reopening of historic visitor attractions across the country. Amongst the sites is Stonehenge, which will be open daily and is now taking travel trade bookings.

To ensure visitor safety, capacity has been limited to ensure social distancing measures can be observed, and a 2.6 mile walking route to the stones and back through the ancient landscape has been clearly marked. The exhibition and shop will also be open, and the cafe will offer takeaway catering to be enjoyed in the outdoor area. Visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnic. The shuttle bus will be prioritised for those who need it – passengers will be required to bring and wear a face mask in order to use the service.

Around 40 sites are planned to open in July, and almost all sites are due to be open by early August. A number of staffed sites with open outdoor spaces are already open to the public, including 1066 Battle of Hastings in East Sussex; Beeston Castle and Woodland Park in Cheshire; Brodsworth Hall and Gardens in South Yorkshire; Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden in Warwickshire; Old Sarum in Wiltshire; and Wrest Park in Bedfordshire.

A full list of scheduled openings can be viewed on the English Heritage website.
