Heritage Guides unveils The Scottish Witch Trials guided tour

Heritage Guides has unveiled a two-hour guided walk that takes visitors beyond Edinburgh’s traditional ghost tours, tracing the real stories of the Scottish Witch Trials. Beginning at the evocative Witches’ Well, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle, this immersive history walk visits interesting central locations, each of which has shaped and witnessed this haunting chapter of Scotland’s story.

For city breakers, locals and travellers of all ages, the tour will run from 15 October to 1 November 2026. It follows a carefully crafted route through significant historical sites, including the atmospheric Witches’ Well beneath Edinburgh Castle, the haunting closes of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, the ruined walls of Edinburgh’s Medieval Old Town and a comprehensive guided tour of Greyfriars Kirkyard.

David, Founder of Heritage Guides, said, “The significance and tragedy of Scotland’s peoples, persecuted of Witchcraft over the centuries is poignantly explored in this unique 2-hour experience. Join us to hear tales of those involved, across centuries of accusation and punishment, to the birth of Scotland’s great age of Enlightenment.”

With Green Tourism accreditation, Heritage Guides are committed to sustainable tourism, featuring signature small group sizes and a minimal travel time policy.

The tour costs £20 per person and lasts two hours, from 1pm to 3pm. It departs from Witches Well, 356 Castlehill, Edinburgh Castle Esplanade. Moderate walking is required, although this can be modified; please contact the organiser for more details. The tour includes a professional guide, entry tickets and a complimentary whisky.
