Household Cavalry Museum unveils multilingual multimedia audio tours

Household Cavalry Museum has launched its new multimedia audio tours, now available in six languages: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Chinese.

The new tours represent an investment in enhancing the visitor experience and reflect the museum’s ongoing commitment to making its collections and stories more accessible to audiences from around the world.

Located in the heart of London’s historic Horse Guards, the Household Cavalry Museum offers visitors an opportunity to explore the working home of the Household Cavalry. Through engaging storytelling, immersive multimedia content and historical insight, the new tours enable guests to discover the traditions, ceremonial duties and operational role of one of the British Army’s most distinguished regiments in the language they feel most comfortable using.

The multilingual experience has been developed to meet the growing demand from international visitors and to ensure that more guests can fully engage with the museum’s history and living heritage.

Beyond translation, the new tours bring visitors closer to the human stories behind the Household Cavalry. The audio guide features first-hand oral histories recorded with serving soldiers of the regiment, offering personal, in-the-moment reflections on ceremonial duty, life in the working stables and the traditions passed down through generations.

Among the tour’s standout accounts is that of Andrew Radford, who was awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his actions during Operation Herrick 4 in Afghanistan in 2006, and who reflects on the honour of having a horse named after him in tribute, a horse still seen on ceremonial duty at Horse Guards today.

Visitors can also hear from two of the Regiment’s first female troopers, who speak about being inspected by His Majesty The King during the Standards Parade at Windsor Castle, and about their experience as trailblazers within the Household Cavalry. These first-hand accounts sit alongside the museum’s historical narration, giving visitors access to perspectives that are not available anywhere else in the museum’s public displays.

Nicola Ayrton-Guest, Museum Director, said, “We are delighted to introduce our new multilingual multimedia tours, making the Household Cavalry Museum more accessible than ever before. Every visitor deserves the opportunity to connect with the extraordinary stories, history and traditions of the Household Cavalry, regardless of the language they speak. These new tours will help us welcome even more visitors from across the world while enriching the experience for everyone who walks through our doors.”

The Household Cavalry Museum extends its sincere thanks to ATS for their expertise, innovation and collaboration throughout the development and delivery of the project. Their support has been invaluable in bringing this exciting new visitor experience to life.

The museum is now inviting tourism partners, travel trade organisations, destination marketing organisations and travel media to help share the news of the launch. By working together, the museum hopes to inspire even more domestic and international visitors to experience one of London’s most unique attractions.

Whether watching the King’s Life Guard on duty, exploring the working stables through the museum’s famous glass viewing window or uncovering centuries of military history, visitors can now enjoy a richer, more inclusive experience in their own language. The launch forms part of a wider programme of investment in the visitor experience at the Household Cavalry Museum, which has also seen a wave of new additions to its collection, including a gallantry medals display honouring the Regiment’s servicemen and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
