The Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel has undergone a locally inspired refurbishment to its public spaces including the bar and restaurant.

The city centre hotel, which boasts views over Edinburgh Castle, the Old Town and Princes Street Gardens, has made improvements to the entrance, reception, bar and restaurant, renamed the Princes Street Brasserie.

Interior designer Helen Hooper of HH interiors, who has previously worked with Jupiter Hotels on renovation projects across the UK, managed the project. On the design scheme, Helen commented, “Edinburgh has such a distinct personality and cultural heritage that it was important to reflect this throughout the fabric of the hotel so guests feel closer to the spirit of the city in which they are staying. For this project, I pulled inspiration and design ideas from famous people in Edinburgh, iconic landmarks and quirky local stories.”

The new look Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street hotel features artwork of Alexander Graham Bell, born in Edinburgh and inventor of the telephone, alongside a retro telephone display. Guests will also find framed pages of Robbie Burns poetry and audio Scottish poetry played on a loop over the speaker system. Other traditional Scottish design elements include framed photography of Edinburgh Castle, the Highland landscape, sporran, Scottish terrier dogs and plush sheepskins.

Commenting on the refurbishment, Cluster General Manager of Scotland for Jupiter Hotels, James Fraser, said, “I am delighted to welcome both long-standing and new guests to the revamped Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel. The vibrant new look matches the lively surroundings and welcoming atmosphere of one of Edinburgh’s best-located hotels.”

Shane Harris, CEO Jupiter Hotels, added, “The investment in the Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel demonstrates our continued commitment to the growth and transformation of our portfolio in the UK and in particular Scotland. The renovation showcases what’s to come in 2018 and beyond as we increase hotel development to boost hospitality and customer experience in the mid-scale sector.
