MVP to publish new sports tourism title: Football is Great

MVP is pleased to announce that they are continuing their publishing partnership with 10 Downing Street and the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport on the GREAT Campaign.  This Autumn MVP will produce and publish Football is GREAT, a follow-up to the successful Film is GREAT and Theatre is GREAT publications.

Through the pages of this 46-page A5 annual guide, MVP will focus on all 20 Premier League Football teams competing in the 2018/19 season. In addition to this, their editors are going to shine a light on the surrounding attractions, restaurants, culture, nightlife and accommodation, and provide compelling reasons to make the most of a sporting visit. There will also be essential travel information, inspirational features and insider-style interviews.

The proposed launch will be to publish the guide in October – a peak time for inbound visitors that watch live football – and there will be 100,000 copies distributed via:

  • Insertion within October’s edition of WHERE London, available in more than 300 top London hotels
  • Tourist Information Centres within the UK’s most visited footballing destinations, including: London, Manchester, Liverpool, Wales, Scotland, Birmingham and Newcastle
  • Via a number of the UK’s top sporting tour operators
  • UK travel hubs including airports and major train stations, plus selected European travel hubs
  • Sports grounds and venues

The publication will also be available online via visitlondon.com, visitbritain.com, wheretraveller.com, and LondonPlanner.com.

MVP Content Director Chris Johnson commented, “Sports tourism is big news and provides a huge financial injection into the UK visitor economy. According to VisitBritain’s 2016 report on football tourism, 800,000 tourism visitors to Britain went to a football match in 2014 – that’s one in every 43 visitors.

“Total spending during this year amounted to around £684 million. With so much to do, including fantastic culture and history, a visit to take in a Premier League football game is the perfect time to discover Britain.”
