Visit County Durham is encouraging visitors to enjoy the county’s heritage attractions through a series of experiences, with the launch of their This is amazing, This is Durham national marketing campaign.

Delivered in partnership with Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, Durham Cathedral and Durham University, the campaign aims to showcase the county’s heritage attractions, activities and events to help drive overnight stays.

Also supported by The Bowes Museum, Locomotion, The Auckland Project and a further 31 tourism businesses in the county, the campaign includes a media partnership with the Evening Standard and Independent online.

Central to the campaign is a series of bitesize videos that showcase experiences, with all activity directing visitors to the dedicated campaign website.

Michelle Gorman, Managing Director of Visit County Durham said, “Visitors are always looking for something new, and this campaign highlights how the county’s fascinating past is animated by ‘don’t miss’ experiences at award-winning attractions.

“From climbing the 325 steps and taking in the breathtaking views from the top of Durham Cathedral’s Central Tower, to getting hands-on with history at Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, we’re inviting visitors to bring the county’s past to life through unique activities, appealing to families and a younger millennial audience.”

The campaign showcases a range of historic experiences, including the new 1950s Town at Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, guided tours of UNESCO World Heritage Site Durham Castle with student guides, climbing to the top of the newly opened Central Tower at Durham Cathedral, exciting exhibitions at Palace Green Library, the story of the world’s first railway town at Locomotion, stepping inside the home of the Prince Bishops as Auckland Castle reopens later this year, and the year-round programme of world-class exhibitions at The Bowes Museum.

In addition, the campaign also showcases accommodation, activities and many more attractions that make the county such an appealing destination.

This is amazing, This is Durham is now live on thisisdurham.com/amazing and will run until December 2019.
