The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction has been named one of the best family museums in Europe – the only one in Cumbria to receive such acclaim.

Ahead of International Museum Day on 18 May, new data from online booking travel company Omio has revealed the museums across Europe that are perfect for families looking to spend their day a little differently.

Using Tripadvisor data, the museums were filtered by the categories ‘children’s museums’ and ‘good for kids’. The results from this were then ranked by travellers’ favourites to determine the top 10, with the popular World of Beatrix Potter Attraction making the cut.

The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, described as being an ‘enchanting’ attraction in the heart of the Lake District, finished in the number 10 spot, which reflects on the high acclaim it has won over the years for bringing Beatrix Potter’s stories to life through the power of 3D.

Visitors to the attraction can learn about Lake District author Beatrix Potter, meet Peter Rabbit and other characters, journey into Mr McGregor’s kitchen garden, enjoy a world-famous Afternoon Tea in the café and browse a treasure trove of souvenirs in the gift shop which stocks the widest range of Peter Rabbit merchandise in the world.

For the World of Beatrix Potter, it is the latest in a long line of recognition for the work the attraction has done in Cumbria. Roger Glossop and Charlotte Scott first opened the doors to the museum back in 1991 to a crowd of over 700 people, and the attraction has only continued to grow in popularity since then welcoming millions of visitors from all over the world.

Additionally, a dedicated member of staff, Carol Lee has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Cumbria Tourism Sheila Hensman Unsung Hero Award. Carol has been recognised by the team for her work going above and beyond her role as Centre Assistant and proving herself to be an amazing asset to the business, using her natural warmth and friendly personality to ensure that all visitors enjoy a warm Cumbrian welcome. The final winner will be announced in the summer at the Cumbria Tourism awards ceremony.
