York’s Chocolate Story, in partnership with Nestle, has launched The KitKat Chocolatory – a luxury experience bringing KitKat back to its birthplace.
At the heart of the KitKat Chocolatory is the eight-finger ‘Create your Break’ option which offers different flavour combinations and a host of diverse ingredients including shortbread pieces, mini marshmallows, honeycomb and rose petals. Visitors will also have the option to add a personalised message to the packaging.
The bespoke KitKat will be hand-crafted at York’s Chocolate by expert chocolatiers where visitors can watch them work, offering a perfect opportunity to experience the rest of York’s Chocolate Story while waiting for the creation to set. A special edition six-finger KitKat will also be available.
The KitKat was created in York 80 years ago and has gone on to be a dominating force in the world of confectionary, with 17.6 billion fingers being produced every year and named the most influential confectionary bar by Time Magazine in 2014.

We all have a memory associated with KitKats; from the snack in your packed lunch, to the rare and wonderful treat you pick up in Japan. Its story is a fascinating one, involving ground-breaking marketing, revolutionary manufacturing and 17th-century mutton pies!”
