Business Manager (Culture), City of London

  • Salary: £40,750- £56,690
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent

The Department of Innovation and Growth at City of London is currently recruiting a Business Manager (Culture) who will play a key role in delivering new and ambitious plans on the development of the City as a world-leading destination.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the business planning process & monitoring performance
  • Managing and delivering projects which support strategic and/or tactical priorities of the Destination Team
  • Managing budgets, internal bidding processes as well as invoicing across the team
  • Providing centralised asset management (buildings and paintings)
  • Managing contracts, ensuring compliance across all parties
  • Identifying and delivering multiple income-generation vehicles for assets and services of the Destination Team
  • Establishing a network of key partners – industry bodies, professional experts, relevant public-sector organisations and commercial partners, as well as Destination Team Heads of Service and their teams
  • Set out the case for any new income stream through the development of a fully costed business proposal and delivery model, working closely with service heads and key internal/external partners
  • Assessing the success of all existing income generating stream across Destination Team assets and services, delivering detailed recommendations
  • Presenting new (or revised) business proposals to senior officers and Members as appropriate to achieve their support

Key skills & experience:

  • Educated to degree level (or with equivalent experience)
  • Project management qualification or significant experience of managing commercial projects, ideally (but not essentially) with a cultural or tourism context
  • Strong evidence of accountancy capabilities
  • Significant managerial experience in a similar or related role, preferably within a gallery or museum environment
  • Proven experience of managing internal and external contractors
  • Strong and demonstrable knowledge and experience of Health and Safety compliance
  • Technical understanding of collection management issues
  • Extensive experience in a business-led organisation with proven experience of leading change initiatives and improving organisational potential
  • Proven experience and a track record of growing income within an organisation
  • Excellent financial planning and business modelling experience
  • An empathy for and understanding of the social, cultural, touristic, economic, educational and commercial purpose of cultural assets and the complexities of developing business opportunities in such environment
