Director, Tourism Alliance

The Tourism Alliance is the voice of the tourism industry. It was established in 2001 by CBI with the support of the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and is now an independent trade association comprising 60 Tourism Industry Organisations that together represent some 200,000 business of all sizes throughout the UK.

The purpose of the Tourism Alliance is to identify and develop policies and strategies to raise standards and promote quality within the industry and work with and lobby Government on all key issues relevant to the growth and development of tourism and its contribution to the economy. Key responsibilities:

The Tourism Alliance is looking for a new Director to pull together the views of the industry and make representatives to government on these policies. The Director is also responsible for disseminating policy proposals from Government on initiatives, (so that member organisations can inform their members), organising meetings & providing the secretariat for the TA Board and Executive, organising our annual AGM, Conference and Parliamentary Reception, producing updates and newsletters, including the annual report, developing a budget & representing the industry through policy papers, surveys & research and attending a range of working groups.

Key skills & experience:

The role is a contract to the Tourism Alliance, rather than employee. The role requires an understanding of the Parliamentary process and working with Government and Government Departments, policy knowledge of the UK tourism industry, experience of membership programmes and events and the ability to contract and undertake research. Strong management, communication (written and oral), interpersonal and networking skills and self motivation to operate independently are essential. Likely time commitment a four day week & annual contract circa £70,000 depending on experience.
