Travel Trade Manager, London Transport Museum

London Transport Museum (LTM) is the world’s leading museum of urban transport and an award-winning day out. As an education and preservation charity, LTM uses the powerful link between transport and the growth of London, culture and society since 1800 to tell the story of London’s journey over the past 200 years.

They are currently seeking a Groups and Travel Trade Manager who will be responsible for developing and delivering a new groups and travel trade strategy to increase visitor numbers and generate additional income for London Transport Museum year on year. The Travel Trade Manager will produce and implement a sales plan to target the travel trade industry to attract group, domestic and inbound visitors with a particular focus on off peak and overseas markets. The role will manage internal relationships and act as the main contact between Marketing, Operations, Visitor Experience and Finance when it comes to trade sales and bookings.

Key responsibilities:

  • Devise, implement and own a groups and travel trade sales marketing strategy to produce on brand advertising campaigns to attract groups, domestic and inbound travel trade guests, aligning with the museum KPI’s, and feeding into the overall Museum strategy with a particular focus on driving off-peak footfall to LTM through travel trade partnerships.
  • Host travel trade familiarisation visits to showcase LTM’s activity. In addition, ensure partners’ product training is up to date  by hosting presentations and training to keep them informed on all recent activity including new exhibitions, tours and events. This will include developing new travel trade marketing assets, such as leaflets and brochures, as well as providing content and imagery for trade partners and advertisers.
  • Represent LTM at domestic and overseas key trade shows, industry events and networking opportunities such as World Travel Market, Explore GB, British and Ireland Marketplace (BIM) and the UKinbound Convention generating new leads and raising the profile of LTM.
  • Prioritise promotion of LTM activity with a primary focus on the Museum in Covent Garden and Museum Depot in Acton with scope to expand to other business areas including Hidden London disused station tours, heritage vehicle events and public programming.
  • Develop and manage the relationships with travel trade partners, which will include the domestic and international market, online travel agencies (OTAs), tour operators, destination management companies (DMCs) and wholesalers, trade associations and group travel organisers with the aim of raising LTM’s profile within travel trade.
  • Internal stakeholder engagement; own and lead the trade related relationships including with Operations, Visitor Experience, Finance and Design to ensure the smooth running of in-house processes related to travel trade.
  • Prepare and manage the travel trade budget.
  • Provide status and activity updates and periodical sales reports to senior management and internal partners.

Key skills & experience:

  • Excellent understanding of tourism industry and the travel trade
  • A good understanding of branding, communications, and marketing
  • A good interest in, or knowledge of the history of London and its transport
  • A high standard of knowledge of budget and financial planning

  • Use of Microsoft Word and Excel at an advanced level including producing sales reports and formatting presentations.

  • Excellent understanding of the tourism industry and the travel trade with a proven track record of successfully selling to a national and overseas audience, ideally within a visitor attraction environment

  • Proven experience of preparing and presenting comprehensive reporting on all aspects of a complex sales operation to senior management level
