Wrexham received city status in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. North American actors, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, have become ambassadors for Wrexham since acquiring Wrexham AFC. The City of Wrexham has become a popular visitor destination following their documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. As a result, there’s been an increase in international visitors wanting to see the locations and characters featured in the documentary and experiencing a match at STōK Cae Ras.
Wrexham AFC looks forward to welcoming members to the world’s oldest international football stadium, the STōK Cae Ras. Wrexham AFC is a historic institution, founded in 1864 in The Turf Hotel, which still stands next to the stadium today, and we are excited to share some of that history. Since the launch of Welcome to Wrexham, the award-winning documentary, and the Club’s rapid rise through the divisions, there has been huge interest in the Club and the community, but its history stretches back a long way. Iconic players, incredible matches, and moments remembered for generations.
Nearby is beautiful riverside town Llangollen, as well as attractions including Pontcysyllte Aqueduct that has UNESCO World Heritage Status and the National Trust properties Erddig and Chirk Castle.
