Marketing and Communications Officer, Salisbury Cathedral

Salisbury Cathedral is looking to recruit a Marketing and Communications Officer to join the Communications and Development team.

The candidate will help deliver effective marketing and communications by using a wide range of media to support income generation, give high-quality visitor experience and maintain a positive public profile for the Cathedral. To take the lead in developing and delivering engaging digital content creation and social media campaigns.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering and evaluating marketing activities and campaigns in conjunction with the Marketing Manager, taking responsibility for planning and organizing your work and supervising that of the Marketing Assistant
  • Developing social media campaigns and video content to both complement and support existing marketing and PR campaigns, liaising with the PR Manager and Director of Communications as necessary. Alerting press office to potentially difficult stories or posts
  • Working with GoogleAds agency, creating landing pages for campaigns, supplying information on target audiences, keyword research and reviewing reports
  • Assisting with the set-up and delivery of live-streamed content (for example, daily reflections, services, Facebook lives for events)
  • Managing media assets such as photo and video content by both internal and external content creators, ensuring permissions are obtained where necessary
  • Maintaining and developing content for the Cathedral’s website and, with the Marketing Assistant, ensuring listings are maintained on external tourism and event promotion websites
  • Working with occasional Cathedral volunteers in the department, coordinating activity and providing training as necessary
  • Planning and booking advertising space as appropriate for consumer and trade publications as directed, ensuring tracking is in place where possible
  • Filming, copywriting and editing for print and web-based communications and supporting the development of the Cathedral’s Digital and Interpretation Strategies
  • Coordinating social media content planning and ensure activity is integrated into communications planning.  Managing, developing and evaluating the reach and impact of corporate social media channels

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in a marketing role
  • Be educated to a degree level or with an equivalent marketing qualification
  • Have previous experience in event management
  • Have proven record of proactive achievement
  • Have strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex events
  • Have excellent communication skills, including and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to use standard Microsoft Office applications e.g. Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Be able to communicate with a variety of people in a friendly, confident manner and to work well as part of a team
  • Have prior experience of knowledge of tourism/culture/heritage sectors (desirable)
  • Have previous experience using analytics packages and social media tools to produce traffic reports
  • Have experience in using design packages, preferably Adobe InDesign (desirable)
  • Be self-motivated, flexible and have a proactive attitude
  • Possess the ability to work to deadlines while producing high-quality accurate work
