Senior Tourism Manager, Glasgow Life

Glasgow Life is looking to recruit a Senior Tourism Manager to join the Tourism and Conventions team.

The candidate will provide a leadership role in taking forward the delivery of Glasgow’s Tourism and Visitor Plan to 2023 and beyond, collaborating with stakeholders, industry and partners to realise the ambition for the city, as set out in the plan, to deliver economic benefit and global reputation to Glasgow through tourism and destination management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing a leadership, oversight and project management role for the delivery of the Glasgow Tourism and Visitor Plan to 2023 and beond
  • Supporting partners in the development and delivery of SMART actions that will contribute to and deliver against Tourism and Visitor Plan targets in the short, medium and longer term
  • Developing appropriate consumer research, using data and insights to understand Glasgow’s visitors; the drivers for visits and the barriers to inform future marketing campaigns and products fit for Glasgow’s target audiences
  • Providing regular updates and reporting on the delivery of the action plan and Glasgow Tourism and Visitor Plan to 2023 through identified communication structures, including the Glasgow Tourism Partnership and Glasgow Tourism & Events Group.
  • Co-ordinating meetings of the Glasgow Tourism Delivery Group and providing support to the Glasgow Tourism Delivery Group and Events Group
  • Developing and improving the monitoring evaluation and reporting of tourism statistics including case studies and news for and with industry and citizens, to ensure tourism is recognised as a key driver of the economy and reputation of Glasgow locally, nationally and internationally
  • Driving innovation in content development by working with stakeholders and partners to identify best practice and partnership opportunities from across the sector that will enhance the visitor experience, drive economic benefit and engage with the citizens of Glasgow
  • Facilitating and leading knowledge exchange and sharing of best practice with industry representatives and any other community of interest through events, seminars, attendance at sector group meetings, the Glasgow Tourism and Visitor Plan website and industry newsletter
  • Working in partnership with Glasgow Life Destination Marketing and Communications on the promotion of Glasgow as a Tourism and Events destination
  • Leading Glasgow’s Travel Trade strategy, KPIs, sales and marketing activity, working closely with VS, SE, VB and industry. Account managing key Travel Trade operators to understand the needs of the market, as well as promote Glasgow as a high-end Travel Trade destination

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience in a marketing role
  • Be educated to a degree level or with an equivalent marketing qualification
  • Have previous experience in event management
  • Have proven record of proactive achievement
  • Have strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex events
  • Have excellent communication skills, including and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to use standard Microsoft Office applications e.g. Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Be able to communicate with a variety of people in a friendly, confident manner and to work well as part of a team
  • Have prior experience of knowledge of tourism/culture/heritage sectors (desirable)
  • Have previous experience using analytics packages and social media tools to produce traffic reports
  • Have experience in using design packages, preferably Adobe InDesign (desirable)
  • Be self-motivated, flexible and have a proactive attitude
  • Possess the ability to work to deadlines while producing high-quality accurate work

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Past experience in the leisure/tourism/attractions industry (advantage)
  • Previous experience of project managing that can work across multiple work areas with the ability to prioritise, planning and delivering complex programmes
  • An interest in music, heritage, culture, food and drink, travel and sustainability
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Link to networks of business organisations and tourism bodies at a City and National level
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
